2008 Mandate: Examine and Improve (Good-bye to The WC Mini Mag)

Working at Home

If you’ve listened to this week’s show you know that I am devoted to giving my entire business an intense checkup this year. I’m a ruthless master gardener, approaching my projects with an eye out for weeds and unruly overgrowth.

I’m ready to pull out what doesn’t belong and snip back and shape what has the greatest potential but needs more tender loving care. Nothing in the garden is safe! Every project has to prove itself by bearing fruit.

One of the hardest decisions I’ve made is to give The WC Mini Mag it’s walking papers.

Yesterday I emailed subscribers and affiliates to let them know that my print Mini Mag has officially retired. Since I changed things up from sending out a free magazine to offering a premium paid mag and audio I have had the best time. I loved running The WC and subscriber feedback was amazing.

So why does it have to go? As hard as it is to admit, it just doesn’t bear enough fruit.

Quick and sure hands went into action, pulling the weak plant up by the roots to make room for other projects that need the space and attention.

Whenever I make a decision to refocus and tighten things up I feel like a weight is lifted and this is definitely the case here. I’ll miss The WC, but I’m ready to move on in my efforts to Examine and Improve in 2008!

How about you? Do you have projects that aren’t bearing fruit? Are you willing to drop what doesn’t work?

  • I am also sad to see the WC go. I didn't receive the email, but I did always enjoy receiving the mag. I loved taking it 'on the road' with me to read while waiting for appointments or watching the kids play.
  • Kelly,

Congrats on the decision to let WC go. I know it was a lot of work to put together. We only have so much energy, money, and time in our lives. We have to make choices on what things we spend those resources on. I know you (and your audience) loved WC. And giving it up was hard. But that will free you to do things that create more joy and income for you. You are setting a great example for all the moms out there. Sometimes you need to prune the tree.

Congrats on giving up "good" to make room for "great" in 2008.

Notice I don't have a million projects going on anymore either. I am so much more peaceful, joyful, and balanced.

    Way to go Kelly.
  • So sorry to see the WC go. I really found the value in it but I'm sorry to hear that others did not. What a shame but you have to do what's best for you.
  • I decided to be rid of a few projects this year also. The WC was a good resource, sad to see it go, but understand sometimes you just have to move on.
  • Can I cry like a little baby now? I'll miss it and found great value...wish more people did.
  • Kelly I will truly miss the WC. I look forward to what 2008 will bring you.
  • Oh man I didn't get that email. But I totally understand your thinking Kelly. I took a LOT off my plate in 07 and didn't see a drop in income. It's so exciting!
  • I was sad to see the email in my inbox, I love the WC and the new paid version, although yes, a little steep in price, was fantastic. It was worth the money and I'll miss it, especially the new audios! I understand though and kudos to you for making that tough decision, the WC was like a baby and you put a lot of time and effort into it, I wish it had worked out. :(
