A Must-Have for Work-at-Home Moms

This week we have guest blogger Aurelia Williams. She will be sharing tips on how to find the right balance between family and working from home, how to gain your husband’s support and how to stay disciplined and organized while working from home.

Being a mother is more than a full time job. Mothers do not get sick leave, paid vacations or weekends off. Moms cannot punch the time clock at the end of the day. Moms are on-call 24/7. They are chiefs, chauffeurs, teachers, nurses, and so much more. With the huge responsibility of raising kids already taking up their time, it is a wonder that there are moms that work from home, as well. Millions of moms know that this rough economy means needing as much money coming in as possible.

Being a work-at-home mom is not easy.

It is not something that everyone can do. When there are small children that cannot go to school, they continue to need attention, regardless of what deadlines or schedule a mom has to keep. The best thing that a mom can do if she has toddlers, but still needs to work from home, is create a schedule. It can be a flexible schedule, but there has to be some sort of structure involved. If it means working late, after everyone goes to sleep, or early, before everyone wakes up, make a schedule and adhere to it as much as possible.

Working from home takes dedication and discipline.

Even though it does provide more flexibility than an out-of-the-home job, it is still a job. If moms do not make a schedule and do their very best to stick to it, they will not see the profits that they need. There needs to be a set time for working, breaks, and downtime. The downtime is time that moms can spend with their kids, clean, cook, or just relax. It also helps to set some earning goals. Moms can set daily, weekly and monthly goals that they need to meet. Goals are an easy way to provide motivation for sticking to that schedule.

Many mothers are supporting their families from the comfort of their own home. It can be done, but it will not be easy. If you are a mom thinking about working from home or struggling to figure out how to do it, just remember to treat it like a job. Make a schedule and stick to it as often as you can. Once you get used to the hours and the money starts rolling in, you will never look back.
