However, it may seem overwhelming to delve into working via the Internet at first, so here are three of the most popular and lucrative work-at-home ideas for 2011 to get you started…

1. Virtual Customer Service: While it may not seem like an attractive idea to sit in a cubicle and answer calls all day as part of a customer service team for a larger company, serving as a representative for a large corporation will give you the freedom to work from your own home. Many sizeable companies like Apple, Walgreens, and even J. Crew are outsourcing to representatives that work from home and take inbound customer service calls to provide customers with immediate help and answers to all of their questions.

With this type of job, you often get to pick your own hours to make it convenient to work around your existing family schedule. This is an ideal position for someone with a pleasant personality and a strong customer service background to work from home. All you will need to get started is high-speed Internet, a landline, and a quiet location to work from so that you can take customer calls during your shift.

Average Pay: $8-$15 per hour

2. Sell Your Products: If you have a creative side, you can begin to market and sell your own products online through a number of user-friendly websites. Specifically, you could use a website like CaféPress to submit your own design or logo that will then be screened onto hats, T-shirts, mugs, and similar merchandise.

This business model allows you to turn your design into an actual product without having to invest in the startup of a small company. Of course, you do need to do promotion of your own online by spreading the word on Facebook and Twitter, and encouraging friends and family members to start placing orders right away.

3. Audio Transcriptionist: If you have strong typing skills, working as an audio transcriptionist from home will allow you to transcribe lectures, video, speeches, and radio broadcasts directly into text in a quick and accurate fashion. This is the perfect home-based job for a candidate with great English and grammatical skills, and you must type a minimum of 75 words per minute.

Some companies may also require you to take a transcriptionist test before your job placement, yet many assignments are on a freelance basis so that you can take multiple projects at one time and earn a sizable income from home.

Average Page: $12-$17 per hour

How long have you been working at home?

I have been working from home for five and a half years now.

How did your business, Christian Home Business Connection, come about?

I started my work from home journey by owning an online bookstore through a company I found. I loved it, but the company ran into financial difficulty and had to close for a time.

It was during that time, that Christian Home Business Connection was born. While I was first looking for something I could do from home, I was overwhelmed by all the opportunities out there. I wasn’t sure what was real and what was a scam. After my bookstore closed, I was remembering that time of searching and all the confusion that came with it. So, I decided to start a website where others who wanted to work from home could come and get legitimate resources they could trust.

Later I added coaching, because, again remembering how hard the process of looking was, I thought some may want some additional, more personal guidance. I know I would have loved that.

What is Christian Home Business Connection?

Christian Home Business Connection is a place where people can come and connect with legitimate and trusted resources, opportunities, and get personal one-on-one coaching. I have always tried to make it a website where people can let their guard down, relax and find helpful information so they can get started on their goal of starting a home based business.

What type of services and products do you offer?

I offer coaching to help someone choose a legitimate opportunity or way to start a home based business. I also offer help to get them up and running in their business.
I offer a home business resource guide which has legitimate opportunities in it – ones that I have checked out with the Better Business Bureau and also have been in contact with the owner. There are also training resources in the guide – ways to help you start a home based business from scratch as opposed to joining up with an existing opportunity.
I also offer a guide to help you run a business that honors and pleases God. It covers ten topics of business and incorporates Scripture to help you start/run your business in a firm Biblical foundation.
I also offer resources right on my website that are legitimate and that will help you get started in a particular type of business.

What is the most rewarding thing about working from home?

I think the most rewarding thing for me is being able to be flexible and have time for my family and other commitments. I have been able to devote time to my dad before he passed away and to my kids, who even as they got older, still needed a mom around :-)

I also love being my own boss – it has been challenging but very fulfilling!

What are three business resources/tools you rely on?

I have used coaching myself to get fresh ideas and guidance, business forums to get advice/help when I need it, and an email management system to make keeping in touch with my market much easier.

Do you have any advice for someone that wants to work at home?

First, determine why you want to work from home. What is the real, deeper meaning? Not just to make money, but what does making money mean to you? A less stress free marriage? Some family vacations that will make lasting memories? It’s so important to know and keep that real reason in front of you – it will help you keep going through the more challenging times.

Next, get help and guidance from coaches, mentors, other business owners. You don’t have to do it alone, and getting the help you need can cut your learning curve greatly.
