Another Makeover for the WAHM Talk Radio Blog

by Kelly on October 5, 2008

Yes, I did just redesign this blog back in June. I knew it wasn’t a look I could stay happy with in the long term so this past week I went theme shopping again.

I’m a big fan of the Revolution Themes but I wanted to try something new.  My friend @sugarrae has been tweeting quite a bit about the Thesis theme and I decided to give it a try.

Speaking of the Revolution Themes, did you hear that the developer is going to stop selling these popular Wordpress themes at the end of October?  It’s true - and he is selling them at a great price for the rest of the month.  If you’ve been thinking about buying one or grabbing a developer’s license for the whole package, now is the time to grab it.

The Thesis theme is very clean looking which I love.  I have a personal preference for white space on my sites and it definitely delivers that.  You may be looking at this layout and thinking that it isn’t terribly different from many free themes available and you’re right about that.

The coolness of Thesis is actually found behind the scenes.  When Thesis is activated you get new areas in your admin panel that let you make quick changes to your website - like changing your whole site from a three column to a two column or even a one column.  You can instantly change the widths of all columns in one place and control the fonts and font sizes lickety-split.  No digging into the CSS, which is surely be welcome news to those who hate facing a complicated style sheet.

I initially purchased a single use license since I was just playing with Thesis for my own blog but I quickly went back to pay for the upgrade to a developer’s license.  I know that we’ll be using Thesis for clients over at FreshNets.

So what do you think of the new look here?  What would you like to see added to the blog?

Atlanta, GA October 1, 2008

Although some people may consider “natural living” a trend that’s just catching on, for many families it is more than a trend. It’s a lifestyle. Natural living is not only about recycling and driving hybrid vehicles.

Natural family living and parenting is the focus of Natural Moms Talk Radio which marks its 100th episode this week. Topics of discussion include natural childbirth, eco-friendly baby care, homeschooling and natural health. The show is broadcast via podcast and is accessible at http://naturalmomstalkradio.com/blog/ where listeners can download each episode or listen online through their web browser.

The show is hosted by Carrie Lauth, a single work at home mother of four, who began Natural Moms Talk Radio in January of 2006. Lauth states “I really love what I do because I am passionate about the topics. This is quite a milestone for us considering how many podcasts or radio shows don’t make it this far. Yet here I am, with 300 plus listeners per week and still going strong. This is a very exciting time for me, my show, and my listeners.” In addition to the podcast, Natural Moms Talk Radio’s website also features articles about breastfeeding, gentle discipline, homeschooling, natural health, beauty and homemaking, and attachment parenting.

In previous episodes, Lauth has interviewed well known experts in the area of natural parenting including Peggy O’Mara, owner and editor of Mothering Magazine, author Elizabeth Pantley, and Jan Hunt of The Natural Child Project. The 100th episode, available at http://naturalmomstalkradio.com/blog, will feature Jody McLaughlin of Compleat Mother magazine. Natural Moms Talk Radio is also seeking experts on natural living topics, including mothers themselves who have a story to share, for future episodes.

For more information about Natural Moms Talk Radio , visit the website at http://www.naturalmomstalkradio.com/blog.

Experts in natural living interested in becoming guests of the show can contact Carrie Lauth at carrie@naturalmomstalkradio.com.

Work at Home Moms Talk Radio #241

by Kelly on September 29, 2008

I’m answering ‘Questions from the Mail Bag‘ today. I do get a lot of listener email and questions from my personal mailing list.

Question #1: Why do you charge for teleseminar recordings (Moms Affiliate Expo) when your radio show is always free? What’s the difference?

Question #2: I’ve heard you talk about personality types.  I’m phlegmatic, very laid back and easy going. What kind of home business do you think I would be good at?  (Recommended Book: Personality Plus)

Question #3: I’m so impressed with the work you did on Aurelia William’s life coaching site.  How did you learn to create graphics?

Question #4: You mentioned recently that you are good friends with your VA.  I’ve had trouble working with friends.  How do the two of you keep things professional?

Then you get to enjoy a cup of coffee with Sarah :) Contributing Host Sarah Zeldman of Solutions for Busy Moms tells us what she thinks about the book ‘The E-Myth Revisited‘  by Michael Gerber.  There is an Mp3 version of the book available.  Sarah makes reference to the One Page Business Plan.

By the way, Sarah provides home business coaching.

Do you have a question about how to get rolling with your business?  Use our Listener’s Line to call in your questions (Call my Listener’s Line at (214) 615-6505 ext 9115.) or feel free to email it to me.  Maybe I’ll answer your question on next week’s show.

Work at Home Moms Talk Radio #240

by Kelly on September 21, 2008

It’s Coffee with Kelly this week which means it’s just you and me mom :) My topic is ‘Are You As Ready As You Think You Are?

I co-authored an important blog post this week for the WAHM 2.0 blog at Sparkplugging.  Because the topic was being a single work at home mom I invited my friend Angela Wills to join me in writing it.  It’s all about the ways we had to change our mindet about things in order to succeed as business women.  There are some fantastic takeaway lessons included in the post so I hope you’ll go read it through and share your thoughts in the comment section.

The truth is if Angela and I had not had some very important breakthroughs in the way we thought and the way we worked - we would still be breaking our backs working a full time job and trying to eke out a little something extra on the internet.

Whether you are a single mom or not - you will probably recognize the important issues and be able to identify those that you’ve conquered and those you have yet to master.

Moms Affiliate Expo Recordings Available - The first annual Moms Affiliate Expo is over - but you can grab a complete recordings pack now for just $17.

(Actually - you are invited to join me Friday night at 9pm EST for the final session of the Expo entitled, ‘The First Five Steps to Affiliate Marketing’ for the brand new mom.)
