Will Blogging Be The Death Of Me?

I just read a very thought provoking post. It references a New York Times article about how hard some bloggers work and how the lifestyle may have led to the death of more than one well known blogger.
The article was sobering for Jennifer of Network Blogging Tips and for me as well.
This is a startling view of bloggers but it definitely runs deeper than that for our work at home community.
The story reminds of more than four years ago when one of my online business acquaintances had a serious heart attack. He wasn’t a blogger though, he was (and is) a very busy web host provider who spent crazy long hours at the computer. His life was spared but it definitely hung in the balance for a short time.
Any of us who spend long hours at the computer need to accept the wake up call that comes through a story like this. Would any one of us say that the work we do is more important than our health?
I do not want to be a future sad news story spread via Twitter and RSS feeds.
‘Kelly McCausey, WAHM Podcaster and Business Coach,
died of massive heart attack on Tuesday.
Long hours online and sedentary lifestyle blamed.”
My blood runs cold just looking at those words.
I love my work but I love myself and my family more.
I don’t spend long hours at the desk right now. The babies make sure of that ;) But my lifestyle is still very, very sedentary. I’m scared to even step on a scale to see how much weight I may have gained over this winter.
Time for a change - and not just time to ‘consider it’ - time to Do It.
Hold me accountable my friends. I’ll need it.

Kelly you’re such a lovely person and I believe you can do it. I actually decided myself that I’m going to start back swimming. I lost tons of weight and was SO healthy back when I swam 4 times a week. I did this with the kids because I was pregnant with my 3rd and started at the 185 mark before pregnancy. I knew I had to do something. But now as I sit here I realize that I need to do something too. I’m with ya on this Kelly, we just need to do activies that we ENJOY.

That’s too bad. And it can be scary to think people can get so addicted. I don’t have that problem. I like what I do, but I like my kids and hobbies better. Sometimes I go in spurts where I work more, but I never spend days on end glued to my computer. Maybe I’m just too lazy ![]()

ACK! Not something that I would even want to hear anytime soon! Any exercise is better than no exercise at all. Good luck!!
I am a relatively recent blogger but I find the whole thing addictive and more so, when money is involved. Doris Lessing, The Nobel Laureate, recently remarked how blogs are even killing off our souls. i have a post on her speech in my blog.
I spend long hours on the computer BUT I’m proud to say that I’m now leaving the ‘home office’ two full days per week and cutting out Saturdays on the pc. Yesterday was such a beautiful day that I spent only about 1 hour online, the rest of it outside! Yay!

Kelly, I’m working hard to cut waaaay back on my time working online as well. I don’t want to turn around some day and realize I missed out on all my boys active life at home. Once they’re grown and gone, I can never get that time back to spend with my family. That’s why I now outsource some of the projects I used to do myself. (:
