This week we are Buzzing Shynea Hunter, a busy mom to 4 boys and owner of two active sites. Shynea started Penny Pinching Diva in August 2008, a fantastic blog that will help you save some cold, hard cash. Recently Shynea launched Mornings with Mom, a ministry and motivational site for Christian moms. She is definitely making the transition from Stay at Home Mom to Work at Home Mom with all cylinders blazing!
You are transitioning from a SAHM to a WAHM, especially now you have two sites on the go. How has that transition gone for you? What prompted the decision to become a WAHM?
The transition has gone fairly smoothly for me. I was already visiting several different internet sites a day, and I was working my computer time around my time with my family. When I decided to start blogging, I continued to do the same thing. I made the decision to start trying to monetize my blog about a month after I started and I haven’t noticed too much difference in the time that I have to spend on the computer. I do everything late at night, early in the morning and during nap time. I decided that I wanted to become a WAHM because I wanted to supplement my family’s income. The price on everything was rising, and I wanted to ease the pinch.
How has starting Mornings with Mom (your ministry site), impacted your day? Do you spend less time on Penny Pinching Diva or have you decided to work more?
Mornings With Mom is a blessing to me. It is literally my breath of fresh air every day. I have so many inspirational articles on there already, and I am starting to receive quite a few emails from the site. I love sitting down and reading the inspirational words on that site. I have had to cut back the time that I spend on Penny Pinching Diva. That site already has a loyal following, so instead of cutting back my family’s time, I cut back time on Penny Pinching Diva. Until I can get Mornings With Mom to become more self sufficient I am going to spend a little bit more time on that site.
Working at home with 4 small boys sounds like a challenge for sure :) Do you have any routines to help get the important things done during the day?
My two oldest sons are in school, so during the day it is just me and the two babies. I am always reconfiguring my schedule trying to come up with something better. I think the most important thing is that my family helps pitch in. Everyone cleans up their own messes and then pitches in with the bigger things. We work as one. While we have our own individual chores, we save the bigger chores to do together on the weekend.
Who has inspired, encouraged or motivated you to go from being a SAHM to a WAHM?
My fiance actually inspired me to go from a SAHM to a WAHM. He has believed in me since day one, even when I didn’t believe in myself. In the beginning I wanted to give up so many times. He was the one that told me to give it a year. If after a year I still wasn’t happy, then I could give up. I am glad that I listened to him. So many good opportunities have come my way because of blogging and Penny Pinching Diva.
Lastly, do you have any tips or advice for other SAHMs thinking about making the leap to WAHM?
