The holidays are upon us. For most business owners that means an increase in sales – or at least it used to. In today’s frustrating economy, small and large businesses alike are facing record lows when it comes to sales. Even those in the service industry are seeing less and less clients. So what’s the answer? Think 10? Try these 10 ways to survive and thrive this holiday season.

Top 10 Publicity Ideas to Market Your Business This Holiday Season

1. One great way to boost sales and awareness of your company is to enlist the help of a publicity virtual assistant. These experts specialize in helping you to get more publicity. They can handle everything from writing and sending out press releases to creating entire media campaigns. Let them write better descriptions for your products, find the best keywords to drive traffic there, do research to find where best to locate your target audience, and then finally handle all your PR needs. Publicity virtual assistants take the time to learn their niche and to develop a relationship with their clients so that they can bring amazing results. See, your holiday sales can meet and exceed last year’s sales after all.

2. Do specialized holiday marketing. It’s not too late to take advantage of all that can be done this year to make more sales. Consider having a Black Friday sale or a Cyber Monday sale. Add a contest to your site. Send out postcards and gift certificates.

3. Article & Press Release Writing and Distribution – Article marketing works. It’s a great way to get more exposure for your business and when done right, can result in front page Google rankings, more clients, & lots of sales. Get active and write a press release about your business making a holiday or New Year connection. For example, share how you are giving back during the holidays, any promotions you have, etc.

4. Get speaking—Set up speaking engagements for the New Year. In January businesses go back to all work, no play after the holidays. It’s a perfect time to get out there and connect with businesses and line up speaking engagements. Also, consider a teleseminar series too.

5. Create a Holiday Blog Tour. If you have products or tips for the holidays, connect with other bloggers. Ask if you can provide some holiday tips. Bloggers are busy this time of year too so they will appreciate the added help. And the best news, you get more exposure.

6. Set up a Google Adword Campaigns – More people are online now because of the holidays. And a lot of those people will be checking out the search engines to find Christmas Gifts. It’s a great time to set up a Google Adword campaign and get that added exposure for your business.

7. Reconnect with ALL your clients and let them know how you appreciate them and perhaps how you can help them with other needs they may not even know you offer. Send a personalized holiday card or greeting. For local clients stop by their office and drop off presents, popcorn tins for the staff and/or their favorite coffee for their afternoon pick-me-up. For potential new clients, drop off a Holiday cup full of wrapped candy with your business card or perhaps get your business name printed on the candy bar.

8. Set up a marketing campaigns designed especially for and around your company or brand. Write down a marketing plan for the year that will focus on brand recognition. Most importantly, make sure your brand represents your company the way it should to your target audience.

9. Update your website. Take a look at your website and see if it is the best that it can be. Pay special attention to your homepage and keywords. Look to the overall appearance, the professionalism of your wording, the explanations explaining the benefits you provide, etc. In fact, everything in your site needs to convince a client to work with you. Now ask yourself, does it do that? Is this something I can be proud of? Too often we throw together a website, just to have it done. Remember this can often be a client’s first impression of you. Is it selling you well?

10. Don’t forget your social networking. Even ½ hour a day can make a considerable difference, Remember to build relationships and share more than sell.

Administrative assistants are moving from the office back into their homes as the opportunities for working in a home-based environment are growing daily. As modern technology allows for the transfer of information quickly and easily, administrative professionals are finding it has never been easier to do the office work at home. Letters, memos and reports are just a click away. Web conferencing, marketing, publicity, and even bookkeeping can be accomplished from virtually anywhere.

Businesses are also realizing that the same work done at the office by the secretary or administrative assistant can easily be outsourced to a home-based administrative professional. In fact, many businesses find they are not only getting the same work done, but also experiencing better results. The home-based administrative professional is highly qualified and trained in the services they offer and therefore excel at these tasks.

These administrative assistants utilize their skills as a virtual assistant—virtual being the operative word. Being able to do work virtually enables these administrative professionals to do all those tasks normally done in the office. With all the downsizing and layoffs, businesses are thrilled to be able to have the support they need at a cost they can afford.

The services being offered by these independent business owners are varied and can be found to suit the job. The descriptions that follow are just a few of the services they can provide:

Press Release Writing & Distribution: Most businesses today could benefit from a great press release, especially when that press release is distributed to their targeted audience. Many publicity virtual assistants offer this service in addition to other marketing tasks.

Transcription services: Definitely in high demand today. Doctors, specialists, hospitals, chiropractors and many more use outside sources to transcribe their files. Lawyers also require this type of assistance in legal transcription.

Document formatting, data input, correspondence, and report writing: Work can be typed and sent via email, file sharing, fax, Skype—you name it. Keeping up with social networking, answering phone calls, managing email messages, and customer relations are more services that can be handled from a home office.

Event Management: Organizing conferences or workshops from beginning to end, is just another thing that can be done from a home office

Writing effective resumes: Resumes that get the attention of potential employers is a skill that is very useful, especially in the job markets of today. With downsizing, layoffs and business closures, landing that new job for many is so very important. On the employer side, a virtual assistant can set up screening of resumes from their home office.

Researching information: Research can be a task that few can spare the time for. With the amount of information available on the Internet, finding pertinent articles and company information can be very time consuming. There are home-based administrative assistants who enjoy this type of work and have developed methods of finding useful information effectively.

Article Marketing: Submitting how-to and informational articles on the Internet is fast becoming a great marketing tool. Articles are included in ezines and newsletters are often picked up by online news outlets.

For more information on partnering with a Virtual Assistant visit Another8hours.com and VirtualWordPublishing.com. A free PR informational package is available there as well.

Kelly Poelker of Another8Hours, http://www.another8hours.com and Diana Ennen of Virtual Word Publishing http://www.virtualwordpublishing.com are the co-authors of numerous books including Virtual Assistant – The Series: Become a Highly Successful, Sought After VA, and its accompanying Workbook. For complete information on starting your own VA business or if you need a virtual assistant visit http://www.va-theseries.com.

Calgary, AB (June 11, 2009) For work-at-home-moms (WAHMs) whose revenues cool down when the outside temperatures heat up, WAHM-Articles.com, an award-winning WAHM forum and article directory, offers help to keep summer sales sizzling. On June 15, 2009, WAHM-Articles is launching its Saving Summer Giveaway where WAHMs can enter to win weekly prizes to help them stay profitable throughout the summer months.

“Many WAHMs believe that a summer slowdown or slump is inevitable for their home businesses,” says Willms, a work-at-home-mom of two teenagers and owner of WAHM-Articles.com. “But the truth is we often create these slow periods ourselves when we don’t adequately prepare for the changes in our summer schedules and when we allow summer activities to distract us from following the business processes we have in place.”

The WAHM weekly giveaway is launching on July 15 with the first winner to be drawn June 19, but Willms reminds everyone that they can enter right now. Prizes have been specifically chosen to help the winners continue growing their businesses during summer 2009 and include:

1 hour of press release or article submissions from WAHM-Articles.com. “Articles and press releases are valuable tools any business owner can use to maintain visibility over the summer months,” says Willms.

Shape Up Your Website report from The Muses Guide. Willms suggests that summer is an ideal time to evaluate your website and ensure it’s working for you. “During times when you have to work a little harder for the sale, you need to know your website isn’t scaring off potential customers.”

Spring Jumpstart Teleseminar Course from EBook Writing and Marketing Secrets with Connie Ragen Green. A $200 value, the teleseminar series and accompanying action guides were created to walk business owners through all the steps of selling a product or service online.

Advertising space from One Stop Web Employment. “Button and banner advertising is an important component of branding your business and staying visible to your audience,” says Willms.

Tupperware e-Gift Certificate from Shelly Hill. Willms suggests work-at-home-moms can increase their revenues over the summer months by adding another revenue stream to their businesses. “Whether you want to become a Tupperware consultant, sell your own product, or something else entirely different, having multiple streams of income will help make sure your income never dries up.”

A business book by Diana Ennen of Virtual Word Publishing, title to be announced. Ennen is the author of several books including the upcoming So You Want to Be a Work at Home Mom: A Christian’s Guide to Starting a Home-Based Business co-authored by Jill Hart, Virtual Assistant the Series, Words from Home and Home Office Recovery Plan.

One hour of business coaching also from Ennen of Virtual Word Publishing. A marketing specialist and publicity expert, Ennen offers PR coaching and Virtual Assistant coaching. According to Willms, the right business coach can help keep your business on track through the summer months by holding you accountable for your results.

To stop summer slowdown now for your work-at-home-mom business, visit http://www.WAHM-Articles.com and click on the link to enter the Saving Summer Giveaway. When you enter, you’ll instantly be eligible to win one of these exciting prizes.

Pensacola, FL—June 8, 2009-The Wall Street Journal recently reported that over 110,000 jobs were posted to a few of the largest freelancing job sites during the first three months of 2009. That activity represents an increase of about 100% over 2008 figures. The current outsourcing boom is hardly a surprise to the hundreds of thousands of individuals laid off from jobs and now freelancing in today’s restrained economy. The surge of new freelancers to the marketplace and the decrease in permanent and temporary employment has made the bidding environment for contract work more competitive than ever. Helping freelancers to get an edge in this new world is a unique organization called Shelancers.

Shelancers (http://www.shelancers.com) is the international association for professional female freelancers. Graphic designers, accountants, marketing consultants, writers, personal development coaches and virtual assistants are just some of the professionals that have joined this Association. While Shelancers offers a job board for full-members, the other key benefits offered to freelancers is education and networking – two factors that can make the difference between a freelancer that earns an income and one that doesn’t.

“More contract postings are great for our industry but there’s still the issue of competition. You’ve got to be competent in marketing your skills when it’s a buyers’ market. Without a competitive edge it will take longer and be more difficult to secure a full-time or part-time living as a freelancer,” explains Shelancer co-founder, Nicole Dean.

“What makes Shelancers such a benefit for new and experienced freelancers is that this is a membership organization offering a library of printed and audio-visual resources, regular online seminars and a 24-hour discussion board. Our resources help to cut the marketing learning curve in half for budding freelancers. There’s no fluff, just professional mentorship and practical, leading edge answers to the kinds of questions freelancers have today,” adds Dean.

One of the tips shared in the Shelancer library is the importance of understanding a particular market segment and serving it well (niche marketing). That thinking is the reason behind the creation of Shelancers. Many women professionals or business owners choose to network in women’s business groups in addition to other groups. Shelancers offers that choice to the freelancing segment of the marketplace. Membership in the Shelancer organization is open to any female freelancer.

“In Tim Ferris’ bestselling book The 4-hour Workweek he explains that business owners can get a 100% return on their investment by delegating a task for 50% of their hourly rate. At Shelancers we’re preparing our members to be ready to take advantage of what I expect to be a continually rising increase in outsourcing,” explains Dean.

Shelancers is co-owned by Nicole Dean and Darina Loakman. Nicole is a well known affiliate manager and consultant who has been helping women to work from home since 2004 and Darina was named by the Examiner Newspaper as one of the 50 most influential women in Ireland (2006). To arrange an interview with Nicole or Darina please contact Sharon McMillan, Media Relations, 216-342-1502 / nicoledean [at] gmail.com.

Membership Not only Has its Benefits, It Can Save Money for the 300,000 Fans That Visit the Hillbilly Housewife

Rock Hill, SC, May 25, 2009 – One of the Internet’s most popular communities for frugal living, home cooking tips and recipes – HillbillyHousewife.com – has just introduced a membership club to enhance the interactive experience of the more than 300,000 fans who visit the site each month. The Hillbilly Housewife Club (http://www.hillbillyhousewifeclub.com) offers popular features like a members’ forum, a recipe center where members can easily retrieve and submit recipes and a new monthly resource guide.

“Our site has always been one of the more interactive sites on the web. Our readers love to post on the blog and send in letters and opinions on the information shared. But now they’re going to have a dedicated area where they can easily submit recipes, seek conversation, inspiration and good company from members in the discussion forum or download one of the timely resources uploaded to the membership area every month,” explains HillbillyHousewife.com owner Susanne Myers.

“My only concern about adding a membership center was the membership fee that would be necessary to cover the additional costs. Many of our members are with us because they are looking for ways to save money, not spend it. So to address that concern I made a commitment to offer resources, services and strategies that could help members to save many times more than they would have spent on their monthly subscription fee,” adds Myers.

The first monthly resource offering money saving strategies for Hillbilly Housewife Club members is the “Getting out of Debt for Good” guide. This 20-page guide provides a step-by-step road map for changing purchasing habits, paying down bills and putting into place a rock solid strategy for getting out of debt permanently. Initial reaction from Club members has been overwhelming.

“The HBHW Club’s first report on “Getting out of Debt” has really gotten me thinking and budgeting. I am so proud of myself because I made it to two weeks on $120.00 on groceries. I was even able to put meals in the freezer. It is amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. I can’t wait for the next resource,” explains one Hillbilly Housewife Club member in a recent forum post.

If you’d like to interview Susanne Myers to learn more about the Hillbilly Housewife recipes and frugal, healthy living tips, please contact Susanne at Susanne@hillbillyhousewife.com or (803) 524-2862.

Weirauch Wins SBA Michigan Award!

Ortonville, Michigan – Carrin Weirauch, Owner of Down To Earth Toys of Ortonville, has been named the 2009 Michigan Home-Based Business Champion of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Down To Earth Toys is a Web-based retailer of wooden, natural, and educational toys.

Carrin’s home-based business (www.DownToEarthToys.com) was born out of necessity. In 2007, she noticed that a large number of children’s toys that were made in China were being recalled due to excessive lead levels. Like many parents, Weirauch was becoming increasingly conscious of the country of origin and was looking for an alternative to foreign-made toys. She decided to launch a Web site where consumers could locate American made toys that contain environmentally sound components such as wood and/or natural fibers.

“Carrin took her idea to find a better, safer toy for her child and developed it into a thriving home-based business,” said Richard Temkin, SBA Michigan District Director. “Her commitment to selling safer, American-made products is commendable. I am pleased to announce Carrin Weirauch as the winner of SBA’s 2009 Michigan Home-Based Business Champion of the Year.”

Carrin has received valuable help from the SBA with marketing, inventory management, web site design, accounting, and business planning. Carrin is active with the local La Leche League chapter, and Attachment Parenting groups, where she delivers talks on the value and promotion of American-made toys, toy safety, and home-based business.

Carrin received her Michigan award during the fifth annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards ceremony in East Lansing, Michigan, on April 30, 2009.

Chino Hills, CA (April 27, 2009) American Work-from-Home-Moms Defy Economy and Offer Aid to Entrepreneurs in Need

In an economic climate where many businesses are closing their doors, some American work-from-home-moms continue to earn six-figure incomes and are opening windows to share their prosperity with entrepreneurs around the globe. One way they are giving aid is through WorkAtHomeMomCafe.com, a new work-at-home-mom social network that helps moms find the right home business for them and lends its ad revenue to women in impoverished countries.

Work-at-home-mom, Angie Fisher, a 20-year healthcare industry veteran who is now on her way to earning six-figures through her own home business, created the social network for moms because she is living her American dream and desired to give something back to the global community. “We are fortunate as American women because of our access to the vast resources our country offers,” Fisher says. “Ultimately, I think that we as mothers share a common, unique and undeniable bond – no matter where we live, want the same things – to love, and establish a sense of pride and self esteem in our children while providing for our families. By lending aid to these women who also want to establish their own business, we’re helping them accomplish that.”

WorkAtHomeMomCafe.com, which connects work-at-home-moms with each other while providing information on work-at-home opportunities and how to avoid home business scams, lends 100% of its ad revenue to entrepreneurs across the world through Kiva, a micro-lending website whose mission is to connect people, through lending, to alleviate poverty. The majority of Kiva’s loan recipients are women.

A longtime work-at-home-mom, Fisher is no stranger to helping others. Since 2008, after several missteps in the business world, she has been successful working in a home business by partnering with a $100 million company that helps families and small businesses without adequate healthcare coverage find access to supplemental medical and dental care. According to Fisher, the 47 million Americans without healthcare and the 70% of Americans without dental insurance often wrongly believe they have no other options for affordable health and dental care.
