Cut Off and Forced To Be Unproductive

Working at Home

Charter Cable is not my friend.

Yesterday morning I woke up to slow internet.  Then I had no internet.  Then I had slow internet again and then no internet.  Then fast, then slow, then no. (You get the picture.)

I trouble shoot all the ways that I know I should.  Nothing helps – I decide Cable must just be having trouble so I’ll wait a bit.

An hour or so later I call Charter Cable to report the problem.

They make me trouble shoot everything that I already troubleshooted.  (Even though I told them I already did that – they have to do their job, right?)

I get cut off and have to call back and go through all the story again.  They want me to troubleshoot again and I just about lose my mind and tell them very loudly and very firmly that I WILL NOT trouble shoot one more thing.

So they finally tell me that they will send out a service man the next morning.

Whatever. Fine. Good.

So all day and all night we have slow to nonexistent internet.  I made a run into the coffee shop to be able to do some of things that my slow internet wouldn’t let me do – like visit PayPal and my bank website.

This morning – the cable man arrives at about 10.  He troubleshoots.  He replaces the modem.  He replaces the cable to the modem.  He does all kinds of test and nothing is working right.  He is at my house for hours.

I am sitting on my couch watching an old love story movie – calling my VA every hour or so to tell her to cancel another interview because I can’t use my system.

The repair guy tells me he is going to leave but he’ll be back in a little while with another repair guy to try to see if he spots something he isn’t spotting.

So about 2pm or so they arrive.  They change out the modem again – still no good.

Then -  they left without it fixed because it turned out that the problem (surprise, surprise) is on Charter Cable’s end of things – not my equipment, wiring or otherwise.

sigh

Just for the record.  The repair guys were very nice and I’m not mad at them.

Charter Cable on the other hand is definitely not my friend.

I had to go to town to check my email this evening and now it’s super late and the net just came back – hopefully for good – please God please!

I know that all services run into trouble – but what is frustrating is that there isn’t better communication.  Why couldn’t the repair department have known yesterday morning that the problem was on their end not my end? It would have saved me all that cursed troubleshooting.  It would have saved me hours of lost computer time today while the repair guy was working on things here.  Sure, I wouldn’t have had internet, but I could have still worked.

All that aside… the love story movie on cable was really good ;)

  • I woke up to fast internet - let's hope it's here for good!
  • UGH Kelly, I know that frustration! The last time my cable company did that to me, it lasted 8 days. EIGHT! And I had no internet, not just slow or intermittent. That's one of the bad parts about working at home, dealing with shoddy service and knowing you're dependent upon it anyway. Bleh. Hope you're back to full speed soon!
