Did you “Remember the Milk?”

Working at Home

I have searched high and low for a good way to keep track of the gazillion things I have to do in a day.  I clung to my FranklinCovey paper-based planner system as long as I possibly could, until my husband and I started running into problems because we were not sharing a calendar or task list.

So I set out on a search for a new way to keep track of tasks for our household and for my business, and discovered that only one far surpasses any other…Remember the Milk.

So why is this web-based task management system so awesome?  Here are seven good reasons.

1.  You can easily share tasks with or send reminders to your spouse.

2.  Once you have entered a task, you can receive reminders by email, text message, or any instant messenger system that you use.

3.  You can view your tasks anywhere, like on your web-enabled phone.

4.  You can add tasks from anywhere.  In addition to adding them on the Remember the Milk website, you could send an email, or drag and drop dates you want to remember while you are browsing the web.

5.  You can easily separate business and home related tasks by tagging them.

6.  Remember the Milk works nicely with all Google products like Gmail, Google Calendar, and iGoogle.

7.  Are you on Twitter?  Add @rtm as your friend and complete a short setup process, then you can add tasks and receive reminders from there.

Of course, it is FREE to use so signup now and give it a try!

If you’d like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this application inspired by David Allen’s GTD:

    http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.
  • One more reason to hope for an iPhone :)
  • I love the computer apps SOOOO much! But find that my husband isn't as tech-y as I am, and I still carry around my binder with all my info. I have tried all kinds of planners and found one that works - BUT someday when we grow up - I hope we can graduate to Remember the Milk!!!

OK, I'm very forgetful, and tend to go to the store like 4 times a week. Pen and paper get lost in my house, but not the computer! I will definitely give this a try. Thanks for the tip!
  • Oh, you can never go wrong with good, old-fashioned pen and paper. :-)
  • The only problem is my husband doesn't check his email everyday and he doesn't do text messaging. I just barely got him on facebook! I will have to try this. Thanks for the tip!!

  • Hi Danielle, That's too funny, my husband is a Facebook hold-out too. And Twitter is out of the question. :-)
  • I have tried remember the milk, but I still need to write my to do list with old fashioned pen and paper. I wish I could love RTM because it has a great iPhone app, but alas, I am in pen and post-it note mode still.
  • Hi Christie! I still love post-it notes. I was so thrilled when I discovered the app on my computer that put little post-it notes on the screen. Thought that was fascinating. :-)
