Difference between a Blog Post and an Article

Working at Home

I just finished up a great coaching call and the topic of blogging and articles came up.  I shared how I differentiate a blog post from an article. (Maybe not an important distinction to some - but definitely to me.)

A blog post is Personal, Passionate and Purposeful.

An article is more formal.  It has a beginning, guts and an ending.

Does this ring true with you?

I might blog about something in about 150 words and share my heart on the matter without much format.  But if I were going to write an article about it, I’d straighten out my thoughts and come up with points and a conclusion, etc.

Some blogs are pretty formal and they bore me to tears.  And some articles are pretty scattered… I think the writer just got their wires crossed and should have gone for a different use for that content.

Wow, Kelly, you summed the difference up pretty good. I think I need to add a little more passion and guts to my blog posts. (:

    Thanks!

[...] I was reminded recently about the difference between a blog and a website and I realized that I was trying to do too much with this blog. First, I just wanted to write. Second, I wanted to make money. Third, I wanted to participate in memes and writing projects like Woman to Woman. Fourth, I wanted to somehow turn this into a business. Somehow I got distracted by all these things and I came up with a big, mushy, mess of a blog. All these things are great but must be implemented in the right way. [...]
