Discussion on WAHM Value Continues

superheroes13Last week I wrote “WAHM Value: A Question that Warrants More Discussion” a discussion that began on Twitter. With varied opinions arising from Val Selby’s original question “How do you think the WAHM stigma helps or hinders you?

I think this is a necessary topic that needs to be thought about and discussed and Val isn’t letting me down as she has posted again on the topic. “More on WAHM Value” is her newest post on the WAHM Value topic.

Some of the points she hits on are really quite extraordinary because I honestly have thought about the deep discount offers off and on in the past six months or so. The question that kept coming to mind is if this is worth xxx amount (retail value) and it’s being sold for xxx amount how are they making a profit?

Now when the discount seems normal to me, for example an offer come out for a product or service that will be discontinued to make way for a new and improved one, I get that. Or for instance a launch special that is a few dollars off, I get that too. What I question is when the discount seems too good to be true or just insanely low.

I will pay for the value of a service or product, hands down! I have learned many lessons about buying that deeply discounted price and getting shafted for it. I now look for the value in the service or product not in the dollar amount.

Also with Val’s current post on WAHM Value, I have been reminded not to under value myself with my designs. It is hard not to want to give deep discounts to grab a sale, especially when the competition is offering at much lower prices. I hold firm at my prices and it’s paid off, I have some regular customers now that I love to work with.

I do tend to agree that the stereotypes we form about the work at home mom term come from the things we see others do that don’t make sense to us personally for our own business (es). That can be both a hindrance and a help.

The bottom line is we should never undervalue out products or services for a sale. If it has true WAHM value people will pay for it. So like Val requests, promote your value, believe your value or no one else will!
