Do you keep a schedule?

I’m into my second week as a full time WAHM.  So far I’ve done well at keeping a regular waking/sleeping schedule – I’ve been waking up every morning at seven and getting started with my day.  I’m feeling a little ‘spacey’ – like I’m sure what to do with all the extra time.  It’s not like I don’t have plenty to keep my busy – I’m just used to tighter deadlines.

I would like to settle into a predetermined work day.  I’m just not sure yet what I would like that work day to look like.

What works for you Mom?

It is very hard when you have extra time you never had before. For me, I know when I have more time…I almost don’t know what to do with myself and I do nothing. OOPS! :-(

I know you’ve always been a schedule gal (or at least seemingly as long as I’ve known you), but I hate schedules and calendars and planner. But I came to a realization that without a schedule, I was limiting my business and often getting sidetracked with things I just don’t need to worry about.

I don’t work on Fridays, except to check a few emails, to visit our beloved Mom Masterminds and I also plan my schedule for the following week. I have all my major tasks planned out (making offers, working on my lists and traffic) and also allot time for miscellaneous tasks like email, etc. I find that when everything is laid out for me, I spend less time wandering around the net and reading forums and doing other unproductive tasks.

And you know when people say to set your working hours and stick to them? It really works and makes you more productive.

I think it’s a good idea to establish a set work day. Start building that habit now so it will stick with you.

I don’t have a schedule or set work day and it’s really hard to try to build that habit now.

During the school year my day starts early; as soon as my son leaves for school. And my first goal of the day is always to empty my email inbox. But after that, I can tend to wander and jump from task to task. If my to do list is a little on the longer side I tend to be more productive. Like you, if it feels like I have extra time or if I’m not working on a deadline, I tend to put things off and waste more time.

There are certain times when I don’t work and I pretty much stick to that…. Wednesdays I am out a good part of the day and when I’m in, I don’t start any projects so it’s a very light work day for me. And Saturday night is reserved to spend with my son and husband. But other than that, I work all kinds of hours.

I guess all of that is to say I don’t have a set work day, but since I think I’d be more productive with one, I recommend it. :)

Some weeks I’m more scheduled (“Ezine Week,” the last week of the month when new features need to be ready, or when security related updates need to be done!)

For the other weeks I have to-do lists, which I pick 1 or 2 tasks from per day, but I don’t literally schedule work time spare the regular 2 hours of admin work every morning that’s do or die out. Usually there’s another hour of admin work in the afternoon. I guess I’m trying to stay as flexible as possible for a future sahm role:), figuring I’ll be lucky to get a task finished every other day then.

The mix matches the results in a personality test (4-type) from a book I recently read. Marathon, I think, is what my main p-type was called. Sprints and rests!

I usually start working right after waking up, not even getting showered until noon, trying to get as much done before the afternoon slump hits.

I had so much going on this week that I worked as much as my son would tolerate (uh oh). Next week I have to do better – he is not going to be happy if I have another marathon week.

    Thanks for your feedback gals!
