Have you wanted a WordPress blog on your own domain but you have been scared to do it? Does even the name WordPress send chills down your spine? I hear you sister!! Although I love gadgets, WordPress is a whole other monster and just hearing terms like CSS and PHP are enough to send me cowering to the corner. But today, I am proud to say I have a WordPress blog all set up on my own hosting account. And I barely had to lift a finger.
An email was sent out from Moms Talk Affiliates showcasing a new product offered through MomWebs where they will install WordPress for you with a nice theme (WAHM or recipe blog) with articles with affiliate links for a measly $10. I know the email was sent out for me to promote the offer, but I signed up! For $10 it was a total no brainer for me. It was the answer to my WordPress prayers.
I already have a MomWebs hosting account and I had a domain registered, so I just clicked the Buy Now button and was taken to PayPal to part with my well-spent $10. That was at 12:50 p.m. Yes, I timed it not only because I am kinda nerdy like that, but I wanted to share exactly how long it took to get my site set up with y’all. (Do I sound American with my “y’all”? I am visiting your fine country this weekend and want to fit in. LOL)
At 12:52 p.m. I got an email advising me how to start the Blog Install (and it was not an automatically generated email either!), which I followed the instructions. I filled out the form at 1:08 p.m. and got a response back at 1:33 p.m. asking me which blog template I wanted (note: tell them this in your original communication) and if I wanted the blog as the main site or in a sub-directory. That means do I want my blog to be www.domainname.com or www.domainname.com/blog? I set my DNS on my domain names provider to point to MomWebs, which you don’t even have to do if you buy your domain through MomsWebs. I responded back to their email at 1:45 p.m. and I kid you not, but 3:30 my blog was all set up and ready to go!
I then followed the instructions for setting up my affiliate links (I had to watch the video a few times as I am a newbie to CPanel and have the attention span of a gnat) and I messed something up with the affiliate links, so I emailed support again, and they fixed it right up, same day. I am pretty excited – my own blog with articles and ads with my affiliate links in it for $10. Fabulous!! Now it is not a no-work solution, I want to customize the header, maybe alter the colors and add some plug-ins. Oh and of course start posting. I am now a real blogger, with a WordPress blog on my own domain and I started it all in an afternoon.
There are tons of great ebooks, videos and regular books out there to help you set up your WordPress blog with plugins and such I am presently reading WordPress for Dummies Version 2 (which deals with WordPress 2.7) and it is very helpful. There is a lot of information that I don’t need or want to know in the book, but you can just flip to the page you need. The information is clearly laid out and the instructions are simple.
I like the Lists of Tens in the back of the book. If you are more of a reader than a watcher, it is a good resource. I like video and books together, between the two of them I can tackle any problem. The only thing I didn’t like about this book is the author fails to mention how easy it is to install WordPress plugins in version 2.7 – we want to know the easiest steps possible!
So if you are scared of WordPress, I encourage you to check out this amazing deal from MomWebs and you too can get your blog up in no time. Even if you are not using MomWebs for hosting, they have an offer for you too (obviously a higher price). Come join me in the world of Word Press, start your own blog and watch mine take shape and together we will conquer our fear of WP. WordPress or Bust!!

Hello Christie,
I am so glad it was easy for you to get your WordPress install. I went about it a little differently, because I am so cheap, I don’t even spend $1! I went to wordpress.org and just downloaded the software, copied it onto my host server, installed it, and then I had a blog! It is much more difficult than your description this way though. The templates you can get for free, but you have to sift through thousands of them on the wordpress.org site. I also had to get a plugin for my affiliate ads to display, but it was fairly simple.
Thank you for the article!
