You’ll need a reliable headset mic for several online activities. Web conference rooms, Skype, video recording, etc.
I recommend USB headsets over the other kind because they tend to be less quirky. They’re plug and play ready and that’s always handy.
Note to mom: Keep your good headset away from the kids! They have a knack for taking them out of commission sooner than necessary ;)
I’m very partial to the Plantronics brand. I’ve been most pleased by their products over any other brands I’ve tried. They’re solid and sturdy. If you can’t locate a Plantronics headset at your local store, you can always purchase online.

There is a wireless option that costs about twice as much. I like the idea of being able to walk away from the computer to refill my soda glass but I’m not sure how I feel about having to switch out batteries on another gadget.

What I’d really like to try out soon is this behind the head model. Most days I have permanent headset hair from the constant use for podcasting and coaching. Would be nice to actually run out of the house withing needing a hat ;)
