Working at Home

bigstockphoto_freephoto-data_out_of_cd_22367We all know that hard drives fail. We have been told, warned and maybe even experienced the chaos of a failed hard drive first hand.

If you are using your computer for business, it is essential you back up your data often.

If you have tons of pics and videos of your kids, it is also vital you are backing up those irreplaceable images.

The experts recommend you back up your data and store it in a separate location in case of fire, flood or other disaster. A great way to do this economically and with very little work on your end is to use an online backup company like Mozy.

For approximately $5 a month, their software works in the background and will backup all the files you have specified as often as you like. This only works if you have high-speed internet, but I love not having to worry about backing up, it is all automatic.

You can also manually burn your files to DVD or an external hard drive and then bring them to another location. Set an alarm on your computer to remember to do this and take them out of your house.

Consider this your friendly reminder to backup, backup, backup! :)
