Make More Money With Your Virtual Assistant Business

How can the home based Virtual Assistant make more money?  There’s two certain ways to do this:

  • Work more hours.
  • Get paid better for the hours you already work.

Let’s look at some practical ways to do both!

Work More Hours: Promote your business with “Guerrilla Marketing”.

The objective of guerrilla marketing is to spread the word about what you as far as possible, as creatively as possible for as little cash as possible. Some ideas would be to:

  • Write as a guest blogger on business blogs.
  • Appear as a guest on a podcast for business owners.
  • Write and distribute a Special Report that teaches business owners how to outsource.
  • Write and distribute Articles about how outsourcing helps an entrepreneur.
  • Donate a package of your time to a business oriented contest that will give you large exposure.
  • Volunteer a package of your time to a non-profit that small businesses are involved in.
  • Offer an attractive referral program for your existing clients.

Work More Hours:  Sell More Hours To Existing Clients

Once you have a client, you should approach every project as an opportunity to sell yourself again.  The happier your client is with your work, the more likely they are to hire you again.

Don’t forget that you can make offers to your clients.  Remind them about ways that you can help them and suggest new promotional projects.  Make yourself pleasantly indispensable and you’ll have them on retainer in no time.

Get Paid Better: Boost your business with specialized skills that are in high demand

Sarah suggest specialization:

“I like the quote “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” from Leonardo Davinci, especially because it matches my company name.  I think the important thing to consider when trying to improve your business, is to keep things simple. If you are trying to do too many things at once, instead of focusing on 2 or 3 things you are really good at, things can get out of hand and you lose control of the situation. So do the things you are good at, and outsource the rest”

Sarah Santacroce,Simplicity Admin Solutions

She’s smart!  A Virtual Assistant that specializes gets paid better.

Tech Based Training offers tech-based training in a variety of courses varying from ‘Overnight Affiliate Marketing Center” to “Easy WP Support Center” and more.  All are incredibly easy to follow along  and  more importantly when it comes to being a WAHM it is so difficult to spend a lot of time searching for things online.  It has the basic fundamentals needed to start of right and they are all written in “normal words” without the added techy mumbo-jumbo.  It’s a great way to build on specialized skills for your VA business.

Stacy believes you need to have a good plan for your growth:

“Jumping off the cliff and growing your wings on the way down is never a smart strategy. Instead, take the time to build a solid business foundation, first, and then you can feel certain that whatever growth you do will be appropriately supported”

Stacy Brice,VirtualMoxie.com

Do you have a plan?  Have you ever sat down and thought out some strategy for your VA business?  Now’s a great time!

Get Paid Better: Raise your prices.

I know this is a tough one.  Pricing your services is one of the most challenging decisions a VA will make over the lifetime of their business.

Many Virtual Assistants launch with low prices to win a share of a competitive market.  This makes perfect sense, by offering a low rate you get people to take a chance with you.  You just can’t stay there.

When your business is busy enough that you’re starting to wonder if you have enough time for everything, it’s time to increase your rates.  It’s up to you whether you’ll boost the rate for existing clients or simply start charging more for new ones.  You can take your time but eventually even your most loyal clients will have to pay more for your time or you run the risk of burning out.

I’m new to the whole concept of VA’s, but in a lot of ways I’ve done a lot of those jobs for free. I kick myself now!

If only I would have had this information a few years ago. I love your strategies that are listed here. Great information!

  2. I am always looking for ways to save money or make money to help out our family. I’m going to have to look into becoming a Virtual Assistant. Thanks for the tips on doing it right! If I’m going to do something, I’d like to do it well and make it worth my effort.

I think this is absolutely true. Sometimes when getting clients we don’t think about selling other services to them, we just think that we got them in the door for what they want, but in reality, we can be a big help and resource to them. A lot of us think that selling ourselves might bug them, but in the end it might save them time, money and it will make us a lot of money in the end. A lot of good information in here!

Thanks for this post! I would really like to set up a VA business soon and this would help me as I plan the business. Can you recommend a good planning e-book?

This information is really “right-on”. I have taken a certified Virtual Assistant course and all the above is mentioned in the course. The point that was stressed the most was – specialize in some form of VA niche such as social media, podcast or video creation.

Thanks for all of the feedback and comments! There are a lot of things that you can look at to improve your business. I find a lot of resources on Twitter of all places. There are a lot of Tweet-chats that focus on building home based businesses, gaining clients, marketing etc – FOR FREE! It is also a great way to network! It has really helped me on my journey.
