Marlo Quinn Fails :(

With somewhat less public outcry than we observed over the Sweet Cupcake company, another young home based MLM program has closed up shop.

Marlo Quinn was a company that offered very low start up costs and pulled in a very respectable number of representatives in a short period of time.  Over the holidays however there were public complaints of slow deliveries and lack of communication.

The news came out that the company closed their doors, unsubstantiated rumors of bankrupcy and all of the Marlo Quinn websites disappeared from the web.

I think we’re seeing that launching a successful MLM is harder work that these hopeful home based entrepreneurs expected.

One of the comments I remember reading when Sweet Cupcake was in their death throes was that offering hand poured soy candles as an MLM opportunity was a technical impossibility from a home based environment – this was spoken from someone who makes these candles for her own web sales business.  They didn’t feel it was possible to keep up with the demand once it reached a certain level of sales.

Since this is probably true – what could have been done differently?  Should they have limited the number of founding representatives and worked out a plan for gentle, sustainable growth?  I wonder if the owner and organizers had enough strategic support under their belts before launch?

I would REALLY like to interview Marlo Quinn’s owner and find out from her perspective what went wrong and what she wishes she had done differently.  Not for the purpose of roasting her – but so that our community can learn from this.

It makes me sad to see WAHMs stepping out in big ways and experiencing failure and it would be great if there is an opportunity for learning that will help others not make the same mistakes.

By the way - a good friend of mine was with Marlo Quinn.  I bought the product and LOVED it.  I am in no way knocking them – just opening up discussion for how things can be different in the future.

Oh it’s sad to see a company go out of business and it’s too bad for all those who were growing their business with Marlo Quinn.

I agree it must be hard for companies to really get going and maybe a huge growth at the beginning isn’t the best way to go.. but I don’t know anything about running an MLM business.

That’s one show that I would not miss.

Wow, that is really sad, I thought for sure when they added the mineral makeup they would take off. Luckily I purchase from the same manufacturer of mineral makeup and am starting my own business. It’s just really sad though since I knew a few gals who made their living from candle selling. Hopefully the dear wahm’s find a new source quickly in order to avoid too much financial loss.

That would have been a great interview, hopefully you’ll get the chance.

Gee, hope it had nothing to do with the name *wink*

    Marlo :)

I’ve been out of the loop for quite some time but I’m about to open a similar site to Marlo Quinn after much research and love of mineral makeup. I’ll keep you posted Kelly once I get the text part of the site done, everything else is ready to go but descriptions and details are a pain sometimes. :)

    Congrats on the house!
