My Tips For Staying On Track

Working at Home

From my continued Cross Blog Conversation with Nicole Dean.

Nicole asks:  “You’re getting organized for 2008 — and Focused. What are some of your tips for staying on track this coming year? Make any interesting decisions? I’m sweating, thinking about trying to organize and focus this year, so I’m all ears!

Nicole, I’ve missed our CBC (Cross Blog Convo) so much! It is good to be back at work and getting into the swing of things isn’t it?

Yes, I am getting organized for 2008.  I made a bad decision towards the end of 2007 that had a bad impact on my focus and work schedule and I’ve finally repented of it and moved to rectify the situation.  If I hadn’t made that mistake, I’d be more organized at this point.  That’s hard to admit – I feel like I should be past making those kind of goober moves in my business… but as always, I won’t cry over the spilt milk, I’ll just clean it up and move on – smarter than before!

Something that is warmly comforting for me in 2008 is knowing that my business has reached a place where my focus for the upcoming year is on management rather than development.

I’ve made a solid commitment to my niece and nephew to be there for them with the Quads as much as needed this year – so I’ve adopted a four hour work day.  This means no new projects!  I’ll devote my time to making what I have better and better.

For me, 2008 is about looking at my business like a stranger.  I’ll treat it like I would one of my coaching client’s businesses.  I’ll view it from every angle and identify the areas that need fixing and the spots being under-monetized.

What I have earns me a nice monthly income.  If I take it and make it better, focusing my skills and attention on identifying leaks and weaknesses – the same business should end up earning twice as much.  I’m pretty confident about this because I see quite a few leaks right now that when plugged will boost income. One trouble spot to the next, I’ll clean it up and optimize it until I feel it’s operating at top speed.

It’s getting me excited just thinking about it :)

So, girlfriend – please help to keep my accountable.  When I say no new projects I mean it!  You have permission to pull my hair if you see me getting a little quick with the domain trigger ok?

Now I want to ask you something… When you look back at 2007, what do you wish you hadn’t done?

Catch you next time my friend!

Blessings, Kelly

  • I have something I didn't do in 2007 that I wish I had, and that is get organized. I'm encouraged by your post and will start organizing for 2008.

The beginning of my year is off to an exciting and amazing start. I can only hope it continues!
  • 2008 is going to be fantastic. Looking back, I wish I would have cut the apron string sooner on ghostwriting. Before I stopped accepting new clients, I was starting to dread writing. No sense continuing on anything you dread. This year is working smarter not harder!
  • What a great post. I hope you have a wonderful year ahead with your niece and the quads

As far as what I hadn't done be so wondering last year This year is all about focus and implementing the things that I have learned in the last few years.
  • I a am definitely looking forward to a prosperous work at home 2008 and I am glad to see your Ladies doing the same. Keep up the great work!
  • I like how you said, no new projects. Knowing your limit is very important when it comes to working from home. I've met mine and it's hard to say no.

  • Great post Kelly,

There's not alot I wish I hadn't done in 2007, but in 2006 I sure had a bunch. Hmmm. thinking here. I do believe even though I've been more focused than ever that I did spend some time at wasting time in my email. I love my email, don't know why but I'm forever in it. I hope to change this for the new year.

This year in 2008 I pledge to only add on and make things better. You can pull my hair too if I'm out of line. :-)
