I am so thrilled to make my first post as an intern here at Work at Home Moms Talk
Radio! I am Angela Green, first and foremost, a wife and mom of 3 young children (and owner of one feisty golden retriever puppy).
Secondly, I am a work at home mom, and have been for about five years. I started my WAHM career as a Virtual Assistant in 2003, and now am fortunate enough to be able to mentor other Virtual Assistants. I have written a book, The Virtual Assistant Manual for Moms: A 4-week plan to build your VA business, and am the editor of the blog Virtual Assistant 3.0.
The “work at home mom” topic is near and dear to my heart. I live it on a daily basis! Today, I hosted a playdate with three other 5-year olds, kept up with work commitments, kept the house in order, and made sure we all had ample opportunity to play outside. I adamantly believe that moms CAN nurture their at-home career while raising their children, AND, in fact, it is in their best interest to do so.
I look forward to sharing resources with you to make working at home easier. In the past five years I have learned a lot about ways to market my business, the advantages of social networking, time management, prioritization, and resources available on the internet. I am most curious, though, in what YOU want to hear about? What challenges do you face as a WAHM? What do you struggle with throughout the week?

Hey Angela! I can’t imagine having 3 young kids out of school and staying sane. I’m a single mom with two, 3 and 5, and I have trouble most days to get to the bathroom let alone get all my work done (computer and household stuff). Even so, I wouldn’t change being a WAHM for the world!

So nice to meet you!
I am interested in learning about virtual assistant work. I’ve heard the term a lot, but what do you actually do?

Hi Cassie! Absolutely, wouldn’t trade it for the world. Some days I’ve “had it up to here,” and I’ve had to learn what to let go. :-) You have a lot of great free resources on your Mamas on the Web site for moms who want to generate passive income or earn money blogging! I look forward to connecting more!

Hi Jendi! A virtual assistant is like a freelance, work-at-home administrative assistant. She partners typically with small businesses, entrepreneurs or home-based business owners. A VA usually works on an hourly basis, charging $20-$40/hour. Assignments could range from basic things like word processing, appointment scheduling or email management to more specialized services like social networking management, website or blog maintenance. A VA might have 1-4 clients at a time. The fun part for me is no two days are ever the same!

Hi, Angela! I’m looking forward to working with you. You sound like a busy woman. I’m very interested in the marketing and social networking aspects, but will admit I still need lots of help in time management. So, HELP ME! Please! ;0)

Hi Angela,
I was the one of the other interns on the resource blog for the last session. I’m interested in becoming a VA in the near future. Your blog and newsletter are really informative and well done! I don’t know how you do it all either :)
Enjoy your internship!

Hi Marya! So you’ve “been there, done that.” I am already amazed and inspired and have learned a lot by Day #2! I am looking forward to more! I highly recommend the VA profession because of the flexibility and income potential, but most importantly because it’s such a strong resume builder in case you want to return to another job in the future after kids have grown a little. And there’s many VA’s out there that share in forums and look forward to helping each other out!

Hi Erin, Yes, absolutely marketing and social networking are of great importance and interest to moms at home! I mean, it’s difficult even to arrange to meet someone for a lunch meeting or go to a networking event!! I look forward to addressing that!!

You’re a busy woman Angela. I will definitely be checking in often to learn from you, especially the “making money” part :)

Welcome Angela,
You will learn a lot in your internship and make great friends. I interned on Family Foodies and enjoyed it.
I, too, look forward to getting to know you this next two months.
