Working at Home

SentrySo you have this amazing idea that will be an invaluable addition to your business but not sure how to make it happen. This could be as simple a informative report to a full blown product or service. Whatever it is planning for it is a must.

In this 4 part series of “Planning Your Projects” I will hit on some basic points for those who are embarking on their first project , this can also double as some great reminders for those who haven’t launched a new project in awhile.

Some quick basic questions you should ask yourself before starting any project:

  • Do I have at least 10 to 15 hours a week to dedicate my time to this project?

  • Are you planning on outsourcing any or all the project? Or doing it yourself?

  • What is your budget to hire or obtain any programs/items you need to see the project to completion?

Having knowledge or the ability to obtain the knowledge to work on projects yourself is the most cost effective way to launch a project but that doesn’t always mean it’s the right decision for the project.

If you can hire someone that’s sole business and expertise lies in the area of your project, if you can bring them aboard fully then this is a bonus! Allocating this to someone not only does not affect your current schedule but it also offers a piece of mind that only they could bring.

Now if you can only outsource a small piece of the project, pick the important areas you are not fluent with and outsource those pieces.

The most important in my book is having time to begin a project. While there is nothing wrong with working on more than one thing at a time, over filling your perspective WAHM plate can be a disaster for any project and your current business. You should be able to dedicate 10 – 15 hrs a week to projects, large are small.

If none of these basic criteria for doing the project yourself is attainable, starting a project now is neither smart nor cost effective. If you can outsource then the sky’s the limit for you!

Now if you just gave yourself the thumbs up for meeting the basic criteria to start a project, you’ll want to follow the rest of this week’s series on “Planning You Projects”!
