PLR or no PLR? That is the Question!

Working at Home

PLR, short for Private Label Rights, are basically pre-written articles, blog posts, recipes, and more that you can purchase to use on your site, in newsletters, in your autoresponder, and more. You usually join a PLR membership for a monthly fee, or purchase PLR packets for a fee. The question is: Should you use PLR on your website or blog? I’ve heard both sides of the debate, so let’s look at some pros and cons of using PLR.

I like to end on a positive note, so let’s start with the cons.

  • There is a lot of crappy PLR out there.

  • PLR must be re-written, which can be time consuming.

  • Deciding which PLR site(s) to go with can be overwhelming.

  • PLR isn’t as personal

Now that we’ve covered the cons, here are some solutions to help overcome them.

  • You want to be super choosy when it comes to picking a PLR membership site.

  • Check out the owners, their writing style as seen on their site, etc.

  • If they offer sample packs for free, check those out first before joining or purchasing.

  • Ask your online friends who they recommend for trusty PLR.

  • Hire a ghostwriter who has the ability to re-write the PLR in your voice.

Pros of using PLR

  • PLR is handy when you don’t know what to write about.

  • You can quickly load up your calendar with future posts using PLR.

  • PLR that offers images in their packets saves you time hunting for just the right image to go along with your post.

  • You can quickly load related re-written PLR into an eBook or eCourse.

  • PLR is great for creating a newsletter to send to your mailing list.

How do you feel about PLR? Do you use it? Have you ever tried it?

Here are some trusty PLR sites I have tried and recommend for great PLR content:

  • Yummy PLR – For Foodies

  • Easy PLR – High Quality content on all different topics

  • I have not used PLR yet but plan to do so at some point. I think it would just be a good way to get ideas and have a starting point to go from while actually writing your own article. I would not use it without re-writing it at least in some way.

Mary, great info on PLR's. Have you run into people using the same info without changing anything?
  • Mimi, personally, I haven't checked to see if others are using PLR without changing anything. I wouldn't recommend it. Always try to add, at the very least, a little personal information or experience in the beginning of the post and always, always change the title. Also, be sure to add a personal note at the end of the PLR post as well. Doing these three things are quick and will add your personal touch to the post. Of course if you have time, you want to be sure to change some of the wording around and/or add some wording so that it sounds like it's coming from you.
  • I use PLR in my business, but am very careful how I use it. I rarely use PLR without changing the content considerably. I like to add a personal story or example.
