Artsy Mamas is joining forces with the Murfreesboro City Schools Parenting Center to provide classes in creative writing, collage making, painting and drama. The partnership will be celebrated with a reception on Thursday, October 17 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the center, which is located behind Bellwood Discovery School on Middle Tennessee Boulevard. All interested parents of Murfreesboro city schoolchildren and members of Artsy Mamas are encouraged to attend.
Artsy Mamas is a Murfreesboro-based organization dedicated to providing mothers the opportunity they need to express themselves artistically through a variety of endeavors. There is no fee to join the group; all mothers are welcome to participate. Founded by Murfreesboro mother Mandy Jones, the group conducts regular workshops in a wide range of creative arts for Middle Tennessee mothers, holds arts and crafts-related playdates for mothers and children, and provides a forum for members at www.theartsymamas.com.
The open house is the kickoff for a series of fundraisers held by Artsy Mamas to allow the group to provide outreach programs in Murfreesboro. Jones and other members of Artsy Mamas will be at the reception to answer questions about the organization. Light refreshments will be served.
The parenting center serves the school system with parenting classes, special activities, and meetings that focus on families. Jones was eager to partner with the parenting center.
“This partnership has given our organization an opportunity to begin reaching out the others in our community, a goal that was very important to us,” she said. “I am so excited to see where it takes us and what lies in our future.”
Candy Clifford, community outreach coordinator for Murfreesboro City schools, said she expects parent response to the workshops to be extremely positive.
“Arsty Mamas’ is a valuable partnership,” said Clifford. “Their efforts, talents, and abilities enhance our parenting program. They are doing invaluable work in the community and making a difference in the lives of others.”
The classes are open to parents of Murfreesboro schoolchildren. They are free, and registration is not required. The schedule of events for Artsy Mamas-taught classes is:
Thursday, September 27th, 12:30-2:30pm: Collage-making and drawing
Thursday, November 1st, 12:30-2:30pm: Painting
Thursday, November 29th, 8:30-11:30am: Creative writing, journaling, and improv workshop
Tuesday, December 11th, 12:30-2:30pm: Artsy Mamas Holiday Celebration!
