In my last post I gave some tips for starting your work at home business and the first tip was to set a goal date for when you want leave your J.O.B. One of the replies was, “After you come up with a goal of when you want to leave the J.O.B., I think the hard part is how to achieve that goal.” I think you’re absolutely right, Mimi, so I’m going to give you some practical, realistic ways to achieve your goal of working from home full time.

First of all, I think we get so excited about working from home full time that we forget it takes time to build our businesses, and if we’re not making money right away, we tend to get discouraged. Once that discouragement sets in, we tend to get off track and lose sight of our goal. Other things that might make us lose sight of our goals are lack of planning, not meeting our business expectations, setting our goals too high or too low, family emergencies and other financial setbacks.

Set Realistic Goals

The first thing to remember when setting your goal date to be working from home full time is to make sure it’s realistic. Don’t set it so close that there’s no way you’ll be able to reach it. This will cause discouragement and perhaps even stop you from going after your dream all together. A reasonable goal date is going to be different for each individual person, based on your current income, your income goals and what type of work at home business you’re going to start. So, don’t set a goal based off of what someone else has done, unless of course they have close to the same circumstances as you.

If you’re not sure what a realistic goal date is for you and the type of business you’re going into, get some One on One Coaching with Kelly McCausey . She will be able to help you determine a reasonable time frame for building your business and reaching your income needs for working at home full time.

Keep your Goal in front of you at all times

Of all the goal setting seminars I’ve attended and classes I’ve taken, the one thing those gurus taught me was to keep your goals in front of you at all times. You can do this any number of ways, and you can do what works for you. Some folks use a “vision board” which is basically a cork board or magnetic board where you post pictures or other visual stimuli of your goal. Since we’re talking about a date, you could write that date out on bright colored paper, circle it in red on a calendar and leave your calendar turned to that month, or even take a picture of you in your home office and write the goal date in black marker over it. Having it in front of you at all times will remind you why you’re working so hard right now and help keep you from getting discouraged.

Work Toward your Goal Every day

Working toward your goal every day is probably the most difficult to do because you may not always be sure what activities are going to produce the best results. This is why getting the best training, advice and coaching is so important. There are thousands of people who have started some type of business or another, but failed to invest in it. Any business worth starting is worth investing time and money into. If you are serious about working from home full time, then you must invest in it.

There are so many resources available to you, literally right at your fingertips. Here are the ones I recommend that have truly helped me reach my dream of working from home:

Mom Masterminds: MM is a network of work at home moms, including highly successful Internet Marketers who are there to support you and give you tips, suggestions and advice. It is a learning resource center full of tutorials, articles and more, all designed to help you start, run and succeed in your work at home business. There are also other work at home moms who are right where you are in your business, as well as some who’ve come a little bit farther, and even some who are just starting out. At Mom Masterminds you will make new friends, new connections and maybe even meet someone who knows exactly what you’re going through right now. Mom Masterminds is more than just another forum…it’s a lifeline for work at home moms (and I think there’s even a dad or two).

Mom’s Talk Network: WAHM Talk Radio (the blog you’re reading now) is part of Mom’s Talk Network of blogs. Each blog is in the network is geared toward helping work at home moms with their business and personal lives.

Other blogs in the network are: Mom’s Resource Blog, Family Foodies, Profitable Mommy Blogging, Mom’s Talk Radio, Family on the Phone, Mom Giveaways, and the newest member of the family, Family TV Addicts. As you can see there’s a wealth of information available to you and for you!

There are so many other goal setting tips, but this post is getting a bit long, so I will leave you with this information to get started. But, be sure to check out Mom Masterminds; there is a 7 day free trial so you can really get a good feel for it and meet some other work at home moms while you’re there.

Are You Affiliate Manager Material?

(Learn more about working at home as an Affiliate Manager.)

Creating an affiliate program isn’t easy. But creating a successful one is even more challenging. It takes a lot of time, energy and effort. There are those that are cut out for it and those that aren’t. Even people that have natural ability to run one need to put a lot of work into developing their skill set.

Think you might make a good affiliate manager?

Read these five signs and see for yourself.

1. You tend to be a big thinker but are also detail oriented.

Big thinkers see ‘the big picture’ and that’s crucial in creating a program to drive sales. Someone that is working towards an end goal that they have in mind will make a great affiliate manager. Detail oriented people will be able to look over all the details while doing all the planning it requires to create a successful program.

2. You are familiar with the internet and know how to get around.

An affiliate manager will be knowledgable and confident in maneurving their way around the internet. They will have the skills to research using the internet to find information. They will also need to at least be familiar with autoresponder programs and know how to load emails into one. A good affiliate manager will also be able to handle other internet related tasks.

3. You have great communication skills

More than likely any job you’ve had in the past, offline or online have required that you communicate. There’s no way around it and a great affiliate manager will have awesome communication skills. You will need to communicate with those all across the globe. It’s imperative that an affiliate manager be able to communicate important information and get messages across.

A great affiliate manager will stay up to date with the affiliates. The affiliate manager will have to be one step ahead of everyone else and know when to notify the affiliates about price changes, contests, product enhancements and contests.

It’s important that an affiliate manager stay on top of things so that the affiliate doesn’t forget about promoting the program. The objective is sales and staying in touch with affiliates and contacting them on a regular basis will mean more sales in the long run.

4. You have a natural ability to motivate others.

One trait that really sets a great affiliate manager apart from others is the ability to motivate others. This can be very challenging indeed. Inspiring others to work hard and push sales is a huge part of running a successful affiliate program. Some of this needs to come from within, but this is something that can be learned.

5. You have the knack for writing.

Good writing skills pretty much goes hand in hand with good communication skills. Not only will you need writing skills to communicate with your affiliate, you will also need to communicate with potential customers.

Part of your duty as an affiliate manager might be to create promotional materials for your affiliates to use. This could mean you will be responsible for writing anything from a blog post to something more elaborate such as a special report.

Great affiliate managers are not easy to come by and are in high demand. By taking the time to invest in developing these skills you will find that in the long run it’s well worth it. Even if you are not looking to be an affiliate manager don’t think these skills aren’t worth knowing. They will help you stand out above the rest of the crowd if you plan to create your own affiliate program for yourself.

My guests this week are Cara Mirabella of The Household Helper who will share a few tips with us on how to not let the house go to pieces while we build up our business and take care of the family.

Cara says it's important to start out knowing what must be done in order to find hidden pockets of time that will be the key to doing more all around.

We also get a quick visit by Julie Lenzer Kirk to tell us about a new reality TV show about mom entrepreneurs.

Sounds like a great opportunity for exposure and assistance. Interested in signing up? Find info here.
