WAHMs Need Mobile Friendly Websites Too!

Mobile web use is bursting onto the Internet Marketing scene and work at home moms need to be thinking about it.

Having a website that is easy to read and searchable on a mobile phone gives a business a distinct marketing  advantage over having just a desktop friendly website. Mobile websites help businesses connect with customers wherever they are 24/7. It is estimated that over 40 million mobile web users are in Canada and the United States, which translates to a lot of consumers.

If you would like visual proof that people around the world are using the mobile web, check out this site at Bango Analystics live (it takes a few seconds to load the information so be patient) It shows real time people worldwide using their mobile phone to browse websites. Seeing this continuous scrolling screen of mobile buyers in action gives you a sense of the scope of reach with mobile.

This site answers the question Do you really need a mobile website?

Here are some more great resources for you to explore:

  1. Make-convert-website-friendly-portable-mobile-devices talks about popular online services that will render your website mobile friendly. I tried the Google Conversion Utilitly on one of my mobile web sites   and was delighted with the results. I was not aware of this tool until I read this post.
  2. Using-wordpress-plugins-to-make-your-website-mobile-friendly. This post gives an explanation of each plugin and shows how they render on mobile devices.  These screen shots  help to visualize how you want your mobile site to look like.
  3. I liked this video as it showed how to install Wapple wordpress plugin. It also showed the difference between other mobile rendering plugins and why Wapple was superior. I like the idea that there is no redirection to a mobile version of the blog – URLs are exactly the same on web and mobile giving you the ability to promote and use one single domain!
also – the mobile version is written in WAPL (an advanced mobile markup language) that retains the styling of your site from web to mobile.
  4. Mobilize by Mippin is  a WordPress pluging that redirects the web url to Mippin software. Mippin uses RSS feeds from sites as the raw content for rendering on the phone, so your site will need to have RSS feeds activated.Once installed any cell phone accessing your URL will be redirected to the Mippin rendering of your blog. Mippin renders perfectly for every new cell phone type.  It does not support older smartphones.  The look of the mobile rendered site can be optionally  configured by the blog site owner. Adverts can be added.

Speaking of advertisements:  AdMob is one of the world’s largest mobile advertising networks, offering solutions for discovery, branding and monetization on the mobile web. AdMob offers a large selection and volume of quality ads across the mobile internet, and they match the right ad for your mobile traffic. This means generating the highest revenue for your mobile site. What caught my eye was their slogan “We’re having fun. How can we help you get into mobile?”. It would be great fun to earn money with out mobile site.

My conclusion is that if you want to improve your business branding and give the best experience to every potential mobile visitor, then take a few minutes to optimize your website for Mobile.

What do you think? Will you go Mobile?

These are fantastic resources and you brought up a good question. Currently my site is not optimized for mobile users. It will be something to look into!
