What Does Ratatouille Have To Do With Your Business?

Working at Home

This week’s Spark an Idea theme is ‘Sparking an Idea From the Movies.”

Okay, so I do not get to watch too many grown-up movies.  If it is not animated, chances are I have not seen it lately!  Pixar’s Ratatouille is the story of Remy, a determined young rat who dreams of being a renowned French chef.  There are many personal lessons to be learned, like:

  • You have been given a gift, and it is your calling to bring it to it’s fullest potential!

  • It does not matter what your family or friends think – you follow your passion.  That is the only way you are going to be happy.

  • You cannot pretend to be someone you are not.  Someone will figure it out sooner or later!

But, the best business-related lesson from Ratatouille is:

  • You will go farther, faster if you find a partner with whom you can team up.

Remy is a rat with a gift for cooking.  Linguini is his human pal, employed in a restaurant, with no cooking skills whatsoever.  An unlikely duo, but when they team up they accomplish great things!  Think about your business.  Whose skills compliment (not duplicate) your own?  Who can you team up with for a joint venture?

Have you picked up a great business idea from a movie?  Grab the meme image and ‘Spark an Idea’ on your blog.  Be sure to link back so you can keep the coversation going!

  • We loved the movie here because my son loves to cook and reminds me as his mom to stop worrying about him and to let him follow his passion!

  • I teamed up a long time ago with a kick arse chick who is almost the polar opposite of me. It's definitely a smart business move for anyone to have someone to act as a sort of "business partner" even if all you do is blog. It helps to keep you accountable, you can brainstorm and come up with ideas you'd never come up with on your own, and it's great to vent to them about stuff that friends and family never understand. (My mom's eyes glaze over when I start talking about CSS and Wordpress.)

  • Yes, appropriate partnership is a must for me .. and I just realized it recently. That movie continues to inspire our nieces, as they have viewed the movie about 5x now. :)
