When You Need To: Take A Darn Break!

I am not a light weight and I think most of you know that.  And I’m not just referring to my dress size ;)  I can work long and hard over the long term with little need for taking a break… but everyone has their breaking point and I believe I reached mine last Wednesday.

It wasn’t a California fault line breaking point.  It wasn’t even terribly dramatic in the grand scheme of things.  I just had this moment of clarity in which I clearly saw that I needed to walk away from the computer for awhile and just relax.

So I did!

I decided to abandon plans for a new WAHM Talk Radio episode and truly take the Thanksgiving Weekend off.  I shut off the monitors on my desk and made myself delightfully comfortable on my couch.

Funny thing is that last night I looked at the crazy interview schedule that I set for myself this week and for a moment I thought… “I don’t want to go back to work!”   But – I trusted that by morning I would feel more enthusiastic, and sure enough, I did.

After four days of only stepping out of the house for Thanksgiving Dinner and talking very little over all, I was on the phone from 9am to 2pm non-stop!  Not surprizingly, I hung up from the last call and couldn’t get out of the home office fast enough!

Back to the couch for me.  A little TV, a long nap…

I thought about going back to work for a bit – but decided I needed some fresh air instead.  Which led me to grocery shopping (dullsville!) and an impulsive decision to grab a Chocolate Martini at Bennigan’s.

That – it turns out was just what the doctor ordered.  That little bit of unusual self indulgence seems to have fired me right up!

Do you pay attention when your mind and body tells you to take a break?
