From the Affiliate Program Owner's Perspective - Do They Need You?

(Read this article for a perspective on how the affiliate program manager is going to decide if they want or need an Affiliate Manager.)

It's a tough question to answer whether an affiliate manager will benefit you. The answer is going to vary from situation to situation and only you can decide whether you need one or not. There are different factors to take into consideration as well and we'll talk about those in this article.

First off let's start with the definition of what exactly an affiliate manager is. It's a person who is hired by another business owner to manage their affiliate program for them. To be a great affiliate manager you should already have experience in internet marketing, email marketing and affiliate marketing.

Because an affiliate manager tends to have experience with the tasks listed above, they can prove to be a valuable asset to someone just starting
an affiliate program.

Oftentimes even though an affiliate manager is knowledgeable in all areas mentioned they tend to like to focus on just one area of an affiliate program. For example they may like to focus on recruiting affiliates to broaden the reach of the affiliate program or they may prefer to do back end things such as creating promotional tools.

An affiliate manager will not only be beneficial, but very much needed when someone with an established program reaches a big level of success and can't handle things on their own anymore. When that level of success is reached it's imperative to hire an affiliate manager. If you don't the program may suffer because you are unable to complete work efficiently or in a timely fashion.

The biggest reason business owners hold off on hiring an affiliate manager is because of budgeting issues. You'll find that affiliate managers are going to charge different fees based on their experience. Sometimes other incentives can be provided to the affiliate manager if you can't afford to pay a weekly or hourly fee.

One possible option might be that the affiliate manager would be willing to accept a lower hourly fee if a portion of the monthly sales goes to them.
Or the affiliate manager may even be willing to work strictly on commission if the fee is high enough. This last option would work well for the business owner that has budgeting issues and really can't afford to pay any out of pocket expense up front and only paying the affiliate manager for their performance.

When it comes to deciding if you need to hire an affiliate manager and whether it will benefit you there isn't one set rule. As stated previously it's going to vary on different factors and every situation is different. A good rule of thumb to follow is when you begin to feel overwhelmed it's time  to look at hiring an affiliate manager. Again this will vary from situation to situation. Some business owners may become overwhelmed in the beginning or some might not feel it until the program starts to see success.

What it boils down to is that only the business owner will know when it's right to outsource and hire an affiliate manager.
