WAHM Podcast

Online distractions – oh how many different ways there are to be distracted on the internet!  I posted about some of my issues with online distractions over the weekend and saw quite a few responses.  It’s clear that we all struggle with it in one way or another.  Listen in!

Is there something inherently wrong with playing games online?  Of course not.  But there is definitely huge potential for going overboard.   Since we work at home without supervision, we have to develop our own strategies for keeping some balance in our activities.

This isn’t nearly as corny as it sounds.  How many times do we say to ourselves ‘I’m just going to play for a half hour this time’?  Put some meat into those words and set a timer to warn you when your time is up.

Be Accountable.

If you’ve been letting distractions take control for a long time you may need to invite someone to hold you accountable to setting more ambitious goals and seeing them through in a measured time frame.

I have to set the timer sometimes as I get distracted very easy. Good suggestions.
  • Setting the timer has definitely helped me.
  • I so agree about the silly Facebook games! I've never let myself play any online games, ever. I suppose I was scared I might get addicted. Truthfully there was a short season where Facebook was an addiction, and it was due to a mild depression. I find that when I'm lonely I get sucked into social media.

Now that I'm no longer lonely (getting a great man is good for that!) I am having trouble finding the time to work my business lately much less to Twitter, email or Facebook. The timer is a great idea but I find it works better for me to use a timer for WORK - I get a lot more done in less time when I have that deadline.
